Magnufi (pronounced 'Ma-gnew-fe') is the largest kennel of Neapolitan Mastiffs in Australia and is proud to be home to the top Neapolitans in Australasia. Magnufi has won over 500 Challenge Certificates (Winners Dog/Bitch), over 150 in-Group & in-Show awards, beating over 10,000 other dogs (all breeds). Not bad for a minority breed! Magnufi was the second importer of Neapolitans into Australia, and is the oldest established mastino kennel. Owning and campaigning the first three champions of the breed, Magnufi is the only kennel in Australia and New Zealand to be awarded CACIBs (International Challenges). Magnufi was also the first to breed champions to produce second generation champions. Magnufi, like most other breeders of champions, continue to actively campaign as this is an intrinsic factor in proving the quality of them. One mans' opinion does not make a champion. These dogs are continually reassessed by judges and critics to be truly worthy of their championship status, and are consistantly beating all breeds. Every dog shown at Magnufi has beaten other dogs through their group wins, starting from the first generation of ground breakers (where every win was making history for this rare breed) through to the current young stock. Young dogs have followed well in their parents' footprints - even to the point of beating them in the ring (thus proving that our breeding is improving our dogs). Magnufi mastino has been featured on several All Breed magazine covers and also supplied the mastini used in the film "Babe, Pig in the City". Magnufi was recently interviewed on the popular Australian TV show "Burkes Backyard". Magnufi mastino are considered by many (both overseas and national) as the top mastino in ANZ. Magnufi is striving and succeeding to breed excellence in temperament, type and maintain the distinctive characteristics that make the Neapolitan Mastiff so very unique. I have imported many dogs to establish and maintain my breeding lines and by doing so I now have a very impressive collection of beautiful dogs. All my dogs are protective and loyal, while also being friendly and approachable when I am with them. They display massive bone, impressive wrinkle and good substance and size. Through my dedication and knowledge of the breed I continue to produce quality. For over fifteen years I researched the Neapolitan Mastiff coming across many specimens. I recommend that new-comers to the breed take special note of at least the following point: Due to the short time of modern breeding of the mastino (only since the 1940's), relative to the ancient history of this breed, there is still a notable variance in "type"- that is that there are variable styles within the breed type. Over the years the breed has been concentrated on by dedicated breeders with the aim of meeting a single standard. This has not, as yet, produced the consistancy of "type" seen in more well established breeds. There is leeway in the standard which allows several styles of type to be correct. Although there are still many poor representatives of the breed, which are not correct, being passed off as good to uneducated onlookers who may be seeing their first mastino in the flesh. The dogs shown here are all of quality and have proven themselves over and over in the show ring and through breeding. I suggest that you visit as many kennels of Neapolitans as possible in order to assess the quality and availability in your country. It is hard (and often deceptive) to determine what dogs are like through photos and video alone. I have dedicated a huge part of my life to the betterment and survival of the amazing mastino. It is my hope that others will take up the campaign. This is a breed which looks as prehistoric as it is. One which is more like a sculpture than from a mould. You can never learn enough about the mastino, there is always more on the horizon. |
